Truterra: The Benefit to Growers

Sustainability is here to stay and agriculture has the opportunity to lead it. Truterra exists to help retailers like Heritage Cooperative and our growers take advantage of this opportunity in a profitable way.

Through our partnership with Truterra, we are now able to offer a variety of resources, expertise, tools and technologies that can help our growers more easily implement sustainability-minded practices, navigate regulation and differentiate themselves in the marketplace.

The Truterra network brings together the best in ag tech and on-farm business management to drive sustainability across the food system. The goal is to feed people, safeguard the planet and support farmer livelihoods. It is unique in that it is farmer-owned and farmer-driven, designed to help implement practical and sustainable methods.

Truterra Insights Engine

Truterra Insights Engine is the next step in farmer-led and farmer-driven sustainability, establishing clear metrics and a common language for sustainability that is meaningful for farmers and the ultimate customers of their farms - food companies and end consumers.

Through our partnership with Truterra, our growers have access to Truterra Insights Engine technology. This first-of-its-kind technology provides significant benefits to its users. Through an interactive dashboard, Heritage and our growers can:

  • Enter on-farm data to create a report for each field that showcases the conservation practices, creates customized options for improvement and helps farmers plan scenarios across many possible stewardship activities.
  • Analyze a full range of stewardship factors and find products, practices and technologies to match specific conditions on each acre.
  • Measure and track stewardship progress over time and spot potential opportunities for improvement.
  • Estimate the potential ROI a grower can expect as a result of applying those recommendations.
  • Generate an insights ‘score’ that allows growers to track their progress over time.

Heritage Cooperative Partners with Land ‘O Lakes Truterra and Campbell Soup Company

We recently announced our partnership with Land ‘O Lakes Truterra and Campbell Soup Company to support stewardship on Ohio farms. Our organizations will be working together to help Ohio wheat growers benchmark wheat that is used in cookies and crackers that are produced at the Campbell Soup (Pepperidge Farm) bakeries in Ashland and Willard, Ohio. An op-ed from Daniel Sonke, director of Sustainable Agriculture with Campbell Soup Company was published in the November 16 Columbus Dispatch detailing this model of whole-supply-chain sustainability that benefits farmers and consumers.
